Bold and beautiful, this handcrafted ceramic beer stein blends natural colour, form, and functionality in one striking piece.

Thrown on the wheel and high-fired in our Melbourne studio, this 500ml mug features a flowing combination of earthy green and deep red-brown glazes. Where they meet, the colours blend into a unique, mottled overlap—each one completely individual.

The interior is finished in a speckled cream glaze, which softly rises to the rim and contrasts beautifully with the exterior tones. It’s an eye-catching, practical piece for beer, cider, or a large morning coffee.

  • Capacity: approx. 500ml

  • Outer glaze: Green and red-brown with a mottled overlap

  • Inner glaze: Speckled cream

  • Wheel-thrown from stoneware clay

  • Food-safe, high-fired, and durable

  • Microwave- and dishwasher-safe (handwashing recommended for longevity)

  • Handmade in Melbourne, Australia

🎁 A thoughtful gift for men, beer lovers, or anyone who appreciates handcrafted pottery.

Each stein is one of a kind—natural variations in glaze and form are a hallmark of true handmade ceramics.

Discover the Story Behind Handmade Mugs

Every handmade pottery mug begins as a lump of clay on the wheel before being carefully shaped, trimmed, glazed and fired. If you'd like to learn more about the process behind creating these everyday favourites, you can read more in my blog:

Materials

Most Buxton Pottery pieces are made from high-fired stoneware clay, chosen for its strength, durability and suitability for everyday use.

Crystalline pottery pieces are generally made from high-fired porcelain, which provides a smooth, light-coloured surface that allows the crystal glazes to develop clearly during firing.

All pieces are individually handmade and finished with food-safe ceramic glazes.

Shipping & Returns

Orders are carefully packed and dispatched from Melbourne within 2–3 business days. Australia-wide shipping is calculated at checkout.

As each piece is handmade, natural variations in shape, colour and glaze are part of its individual character and are not considered faults.

Buxton Pottery does not accept returns for change of mind. If you are unhappy with your order, please contact me so I can discuss the issue with you.

If an item arrives damaged, please contact me promptly with photos of the item and packaging. Depending on availability, I will arrange a replacement or refund.

Dimensions

Approximate dimensions are listed in the product description for each individual piece. As every item is handmade, slight variations in size and capacity may occur.

Care Instructions

Microwave safe and dishwasher safe, although hand washing is recommended to help preserve the glaze finish.

Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as moving pottery directly from the refrigerator into a hot oven. Buxton Pottery is not thermal-shock ware and should not be exposed to rapid changes in temperature.
