This bowl was thrown on the wheel, trimmed, altered, and bisque-fired before being glazed and high-fired.

Crystalline glazes have a firing process using a complex schedule with several temperature ramps to create different crystal growth formations. The kiln is fired to a maximum temperature of around 1300c and then cooled to specific holding temperatures to allow crystals to form in the glaze. It can take from 3 to 6 hours to grow the crystals in the cooling phase.

The cup is glazed with blue on amber crystalline glazes, resulting in a stunning crystal exterior and a glossy tan lining. This unique cup can be used as a whisky sipper or for any beverage. A yunomi is a cylindrical teacup used for drinking Japanese tea alone. Its shape minimizes the tea's exposure to air, keeping it warm for longer. In sushi restaurants, tea is traditionally served in a yunomi.
Crystalline glazes are a unique process that requires much experimentation with glaze chemistry and firing cycles to achieve the crystals in the glaze.
