Crystalline pottery is technically and aesthetically on the cutting edge of ceramic art. It displays the combination of intense organic beauty mixed with the scientific process. Making these requires a high level of craftsmanship to make the porcelain pieces by hand and the scientific know-how to master the chemistry of crystalline glazes. The crystals grow in the firing process and are highly variable.

This 23.5 cm vase was made with love and care; please use it frequently!

This hand-made porcelain pottery bud vase features a glossy golden ivory and blue crystalline glaze that develops crystals when slowly cooled after firing. It is ideal for small bunches of flowers or as a stunning ornament—a fabulous Christams or Birthday present. Each crystalline glazed piece is unique in that they cannot be duplicated. The crystals are never the same from one piece to another.

Crystalline glazes have a firing process using a complex schedule with several temperature ramps to create different crystal growth formations. The kiln is fired to a maximum temperature of around 1300c and then cooled to specific holding temperatures to allow crystals to form in the glaze. It can take from 3 to 6 hours to grow the crystals in the cooling phase.
