Earthy browns, rich blues and turquoise greens flow across this handmade ceramic tumbler, creating a glaze surface inspired by the colours and textures of the Australian landscape.
Part of my Bush Creek Collection, this wheel-thrown tumbler is individually glazed in my Melbourne studio. Layers of brown, ochre, green, turquoise and blue overlap and move during firing, creating drips, soft transitions and unexpected areas of colour.
The warm rust-brown glazed interior provides a lovely contrast to the cooler blues and greens outside.
With a comfortable capacity of approximately 275ml, this handleless cup is a versatile size for coffee, tea and other drinks. Its simple form allows the glaze to become the feature, with the pattern changing as you turn the tumbler in your hand.

The Bush Creek Glaze
The Bush Creek Collection is all about the interaction between glaze, heat and movement.
Rather than using a single uniform colour, I build up several glazes which react with one another during firing. This creates the flowing blues, greens and earthy tones that make each piece different.
The result can't be precisely repeated—which is part of what I enjoy about making these pieces.
Made by Hand
Each Buxton Pottery piece is individually made rather than mass produced. Small differences in form, glaze movement and surface are natural characteristics of handmade pottery and give each piece its own personality.
The photographs show the individual glaze character of this tumbler.

Materials
Materials
Most Buxton Pottery pieces are made from high-fired stoneware clay, chosen for its strength, durability and suitability for everyday use.
Crystalline pottery pieces are generally made from high-fired porcelain, which provides a smooth, light-coloured surface that allows the crystal glazes to develop clearly during firing.
All pieces are individually handmade and finished with food-safe ceramic glazes.
