Bush Creek Handmade Pottery Vase – Rustic Australian Stoneware Vase

A little piece of the Australian landscape, captured in clay.

This handmade pottery vase is the first vase I have created for my Bush Creek Collection. Its softly rounded form provides a wonderful canvas for the layered, flowing glazes that give this collection its distinctive character.

Turquoise and soft blue move through earthy browns, amber, green and touches of deeper blue, creating patterns that remind me of water, rock and bushland. The glaze has been deliberately allowed to move and interact during firing, so the markings aren't painted on or precisely controlled — they develop naturally in the kiln.

That unpredictability is part of what I love about this glaze. No two Bush Creek pieces can ever be exactly the same.

At 13.5cm tall, this is a lovely smaller vase for Australian natives, garden flowers or a simple arrangement of foliage. It also has enough colour and character to be displayed as a decorative pottery piece without flowers.

The Bush Creek Collection

The Bush Creek Collection is inspired by the colours and movement found in the Australian landscape — earthy rock tones, bush greens and changing shades of water and sky.

Multiple glazes are layered and encouraged to move during firing, creating spontaneous runs, overlaps and changes in colour. The results are never completely predictable, which means each finished piece has its own individual landscape.

Handmade in Melbourne

Each piece of Buxton Pottery is individually made by me in my Melbourne studio. I enjoy allowing the throwing, glazing and firing processes to remain visible in the finished work rather than trying to make handmade pottery look mass-produced.

This vase is the actual piece shown in the photographs.

Care

Hand washing is recommended for decorative vases to help preserve the glaze and finish. Avoid sudden extremes of temperature or thermal shock.
