A striking one-of-a-kind decorative vase from the Buxton Pottery Crystalline Collection, handmade in my Melbourne studio.
This porcelain vase has been finished with a rich red slip beneath a white crystalline glaze. During the firing, the glaze has developed delicate pale crystals across the surface, creating beautiful feathery and star-like formations against the vibrant red background.
The simple rounded form and long, narrow neck allow the crystalline surface to take center stage. No two crystalline firings develop in exactly the same way, making this an individual piece that cannot be precisely repeated.
This vase has a very small opening at the top and is designed as a decorative display piece rather than a flower vase. It looks lovely displayed on its own on a shelf, console, sideboard or amongst a collection of handmade ceramics.

The nature of crystalline pottery
Crystalline glazing is an unpredictable firing process in which visible crystals are encouraged to grow within the glaze while the kiln is held at carefully controlled temperatures.
The resulting crystal formations vary across every piece. Differences in crystal size, placement and pattern are part of the process and are what make each crystalline piece unique.
Handmade character
This piece has been individually wheel-thrown and glazed by hand. Small variations and evidence of the making and firing process are part of the character of handmade pottery rather than faults.

Crystalline pottery pieces are generally made from high-fired porcelain, which provides a smooth, light-coloured surface that allows the crystal glazes to develop clearly during firing.
All pieces are individually handmade and finished with food-safe ceramic glazes.

Orders are carefully packed and dispatched from Melbourne within 2–3 business days. Australia-wide shipping is calculated at checkout.
As each piece is handmade, natural variations in shape, colour and glaze are part of its individual character and are not considered faults.
Buxton Pottery does not accept returns for change of mind. If you are unhappy with your order, please contact me so I can discuss the issue with you.
If an item arrives damaged, please contact me promptly with photos of the item and packaging. Depending on availability, I will arrange a replacement or refund.

Microwave safe and dishwasher safe, although hand washing is recommended to help preserve the glaze finish.
Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as moving pottery directly from the refrigerator into a hot oven. Buxton Pottery is not thermal-shock ware and should not be exposed to rapid changes in temperature.
