This Pottery Bowl is handmade and one of a kind—a perfect unique gift for a housewarming or anniversary.
A great little display bowl in deep copper green tones has developed a mottled effect from microcrystals produced in a slow cool firing. It has then undergone another firing for the addition of the gold rim. This is real gold, so is unsuitable for microwaves, and we would not suggest putting it in a dishwasher.

This bowl has been thrown on the wheel before being glazed and high-fired, with the additional gold firing. The interior is glazed in a deep green glaze also.

These colours are achieved by layering various glazes that mix during the high-firing process, creating an amazing effect. The bowl has been thrown on the wheel, glazed, and high-fired.

This Hand-made pottery bud vase in glossy mother of pearl in mottled Green and purple-blue. It's hard to show this little gem off properly in the photos. The effect of this beautiful glaze has come from several glazes sprayed and, when fired, slowly cooled. Then with a 3rd firing, a layer of Mother of Pearl is applied. It is lined with a white glaze which flows over the top and mingles with the pink—a little natural beauty.

Perfect to set off those small bunches picked out of your garden.

This stunning large ceramic Vessel/vase/utensil holder is unique. A fabulous kitchen gift. It would sit beautifully as a showpiece and hold a large bunch of flowers or on your benchtop. The glaze is an ombre of cream to blue with beautiful crystals floating randomly.

Crystalline pottery is technically and aesthetically on the cutting edge of ceramic art. It displays the combination of intense organic beauty mixed with the scientific process. Making these requires a high level of craftsmanship to make the porcelain pieces by hand and then the scientific no how to master the chemistry of crystalline glazes. The crystals grow in the firing process and are highly variable.
Crystalline glazes are expensive and time-consuming to produce. There can be many failures, but when it all goes right, the results are spectacular.

About Crystalline Glazes:
The macro-crystals found in crystalline glazes form around a nucleus of zinc oxide crystal. In the right circumstances, zinc and silica oxide molecules will begin attaching themselves to the nucleus crystal. For this to happen, there must be an extended time at higher temperatures to allow time for crystal growth, and the glaze must have the right type of chemical composition.
Firing schedules for crystalline glazes usually require a soaking period plus a controlled down-firing ramp.
Crystalline glazes tend to be quite runny. Pots should be fired on a bisque pedestal-saucer to catch all drips. The pot’s bottom may need to be ground and polished after removal from the kiln.
